President – Eileen Jones, CPAGB, BPE4*

My dad was a keen amateur photographer and at the age of 10 years, I used to watch him developing images in our makeshift darkroom in the kitchen. I was amazed how an image suddenly appeared on a blank piece of paper in the developing tray.

My first camera was a Nikon FM2 film camera which I purchased 2nd hand from a local professional photographer friend of mine. I mainly took photos of people and travel, but as I improved I enjoyed being the 2nd photographer at friends & family weddings, taking mainly candid shots.

I took early retirement in 2011 and decided to dedicate my spare time to photography. I bought a Nikon D50 which was a very basic digital camera, and enrolled at St Helens College to take a GCSE in Photography.

I joined Warrington Photographic Society and I soon realised that I needed to practice more as the standard at the club was very high.
I entered the clubs monthly competitions and learned a lot from the judges critique and also from the help and advice of other club members.

My passion for club competitions must have been evident as I was elected to be the External Competition Secretary in 2013, and I still continue in this role.

I was honoured to be elected as president in 2018 and served for 4 years. After a 2 year break, I was elected to fill the role as President once again.

I am so proud of our small, friendly club which was established in the 1890’s, and I hope Warrington Photographic Society continues for another 140 years.
